Imagine Living Mobile In This RV

September 26th, 2007 by Linda | No Comments | Filed in Travel / Mini-Retirements

RV livingA team at GMC thought up this lovely design which is ideal for the or business traveler.

It was submitted to the 2006 California Design Challenge contest held at the 2006 Los Angeles Auto Show. Ten teams competed for the challenge that had the theme “An L.A. Adventure” and GMC won for the design of the PAD.

GMC calls it an LAV or Living Activity Vehicle. The owner can just park where he wants and live and work out of it. It’s completely high-tech and packed with the latest in communication equipment.

Thank goodness it is only a computer design and not real. I don’t believe the world is ready for it yet. I do like the idea of it as a portable site for an Emergency Response Team

See it here.

Captain Kirk would have loved it. Beam me up Scotty.

Mad As Hell Can Steer You In The Wrong Direction

Have you ever been told to stop being so emotional? I have. Is that good or bad?

We all know the more stress we have in our life the more physically sick we can become. Our bodies respond to stress, anger and disappointment by shutting down and getting tired or sick. We get overwhelmed and under produce.

The noted psychologist Abraham Maslow said we only have five basic needs in life. (more…)

4 hour work week

Everywhere you turn these days all you hear about is Tim Ferriss and his block-buster book The [tag-tec]4-Hour Workweek[/tag-tec]. A friend encouraged me to read after I tried to explain to her what my blog was all about. She said I sounded like the author. Well I read the book and no way am I like the author. He has the guts to do some things I can’t even imagine doing. At least, not yet.

In his book, uses a four step approach for re-inventing oneself.

Definition – In a nutshell, find what you want. Get rid of your baggage and fears ask yourself “What do I really Want?”

Eliminate – Focus on the 20% that’s important and get rid of the 80% that isn’t

Automate – [tag-tec]Outsource[/tag-tec] your Life. Develop a muse or business that will generate income and run on auto-pilot.

Liberate find a way to work remotely or find a way to kill your job.

This is my three step approach for Second Act Living.

Simplify your life – In a nutshell, find what you want. Get rid of your baggage and fears ask yourself “What do I really Want?” Includes outsourcing and automating your life.

Mini-Retirements – practice taking small retirements and work towards achieving unrestricted mobility

Freedom – unrestricted mobility and second act living
Liberation, freedom or whatever you want to call the last step. The goal is to put a little living into your life.

A Very Simple Mini-Retirement

mini-retirement at home

Let me warn you: This is going to sound way too simple to actually be worthwhile. But hear me out. By the end of this article, I’ll bet you’ll see the point.

I’m advocating that you take a very simple mini-retirement. So simple, that you are going to laugh at me, but I’m serious. Think about your next one week of vacation.

Schedule it for when work is slowest and there will be no reason for anyone to call you for advice.

Get things like the car servicing and library book returns done before hand.

Explain to your family that they should not schedule anything for that week. Ideally you should all have it off together.

Think of three things you really want to do (not things you think you should do) and put them on a list.

Now you’re ready… (more…)

No Brainer Answers to Mind Blowing Questions: Part 3

September 17th, 2007 by Linda | No Comments | Filed in Second Act Living

key to successNow that you have found what is important to you and eliminated the most common excuses, the next step should be fairly easy.

When you think of describing yourself what can you say and then what do you wish you could say?

This is an important question. Take a piece of paper and draw a line down the middle. On the left side write down any words that come to mind that describe you. It does not have to be sentences, just keep writing. Then take the left side of the paper and scribble anything at all that you wished you did or where. Consider everything, brainstorm and let your mind wander. Remember, no one but you will see this. (more…)
